IMG Licensing in Alberta under the Provisional Register
Over 50 former IMG doctors now licensed in Alberta
You are invited to attend an information session with Medicentres to discuss the opportunities to practice medicine in Alberta under the Provisional Register of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Canadian experience, a CCFP or Canadian residency is NOT required for the Provisional Register.
The key criterion for Provisional Register licensing as a GP is that the applicant should have 24 months of postgraduate training with rotations in the key disciplines and in family medicine.
The basic requirements are as follows:
Completed the MCCEE
Have achieved minimum eligible scores in TOEFL or IELTS
Have 2 months each in, 3 out of 4, of Pediatrics, Surgery, Medicine, or Obs/Gyn
Have 4 months of formal family medicine training as described by CPSA
Have a total of 24 months of postgraduate training relevant to family practice.
The key criterion for Provisional Register licensing as a specialist is that the applicant should have 36 or 48 months of postgraduate training with a specialty certificate from the country of training. The basic requirements are as follows:
Completed the MCCEE
Have achieved minimum scores in TOEFL or IELTS
Have 36 or 48 months of training in the field of specialty.
Have a specialist certificate from the country of training.
All applicants for Provisional licensing require sponsorship. Medicentres is able to sponsor general practitioners and a number of types of specialists. Medicentres has now helped 50 physicians qualify for licensing in Alberta.
